Al-Mājid
The Noble, The Illustrious
Root م ج د (m-j-d). Lisān al-ʿArab glosses the root term majd as nobility and generosity. Mājid, from majada, and majīd, from majuda, both mean the one possessed of these qualities. The word majd itself indicates glory and honour. Majīd, meaning most glorious, features in Qur'an 11:73. Al-Mājid, while not present in the Qur'an, shares the same root as Al-Majīd.
