Al-Bāqī
The Everlasting
Root ب ق ي (b-q-y). Al-Rāghib describes baqāʾ as a thing's continuing in its first state, the opposite of fanāʾ, perishing. Lisān al-ʿArab explains Al-Bāqī as the One whose existence has no end. Related words include yabqā, meaning ‘remains’, seen in Qur'an 55:27, abqā for ‘more lasting’ in 87:17, bāqiya meaning ‘lasting’ in 43:28, and baqiyya for ‘remnant’ in 2:248. Al-Bāqī is not used in the Qur'an as a name of Allah. Related: ‘And there will remain (yabqā) the Face of your Lord’ (55:27).
